History

Foundation and early years

Valaysia Golf Club and Lake Normous

The area of modern-day Valaysia has been inhabited by farmers for a few years and in that time, a small road system and buildings had been developed in a settlement now known as Fairweather. On June 28th 2023, President of Vindex Nation Dixie Normous along with a team of explorers 'discovered' the vast arable area, and colonised it in the name of Vindex Nation, thus creating the Protectorate of Valaysia. This meant that the state would remain self-governing and could exercise all freedoms as per previously, but under the protection of the Vinish Armed Forces. President Normous (and his appointed Colonial Governor Ludwig van Boathoven) set out a clear vision for the development of the protectorate, which would see high economic growth and development. Rich in natural resources, the exports of primary products (sugar cane and tin) and manufactured products (alcohol and pottery) caused the establishment of the Valaysian Chartered Company (VCC) by the colonial government in order to capitalise on this natural advantage with Governor Boathoven acting as the first President. The influx of high-skilled labour from Vindex Nation to manage the VCC meant that the demand for luxury goods and services rose. To accomodate this and further encourage emigration to Valaysia, the first building constructed by the colonial administration was the Valaysia Golf Club's Dragon Clubhouse (pictured), a mountain-top lodge resting upon a mountain overlooking Lake Normous. The VCC exported its first batch of Valaysian goods on July 5th 2023, with a Cessna flying from a nearby airfield in Fairweather to Vindex Nation carrying one shulker of Golden Mead and one shulker of Spicy Rum.

The capital and administrative centre, Kuala Lumpur, was established in July 2023 and its architecture reflected the colonial presence. Landmarks in the city include The Empire bar and restaurant, Kuala Lumpur Railway Station and Grovesnor House - the residence of the Governor of Valayisa. The Valaysian Chartered Company has its main offices in Kuala Lumpur, and opened their first overseas offices on August 22nd 2023 in Vindex Nation. Along with the development of Kuala Lumpur, the Pan Valaysian Expressway was established to connect all settlements and plantations for further exploitation of the natural resources.

Government

The Governor of Valaysia was the appointed head of the government of Valaysia. Since its inception, the Governor of Valaysia has been an appointee of the President of Vindex Nation. The Governor appoints an executive council to advise on issues pertaining to Valaysia. This typically contains a Financial Secretary, Legal Secretary and the Commander of the Valaysian Defence Force. Because the VCC is currently administrered by the government, the President may be invited to the council.

Economy

With the beginning of well-planned economic activities under Vinish administration, the Valaysian authorities began to open land for agriculture, and native land rights began to be formed. The government however felt that the native population was too small and unsuited to meet the requirements of modern development, so they began to sponsor various schemes for the migration of Vinish workers from Viridis and San Amaro. This led to the rise of two distinct economic zones - Fairweather and Kuala Lumpur. Built from the ground up by the colonial administration, Kuala Lumpur quickly became the financial center of Valaysia, with high-skilled jobs in the Imperial Bank and colonial government. Fairweather, however, remained populated by native Valaysians and produced the majority of agricultural and other primary goods. This dual-sector model for the economy caused long periods of stable economic growth.

Since the area has been inhabited, Valaysia has a natural monopoly on sugar cane worldwide. Its expansive lakes, such as Lake Normous, have been lined with canes as well as smaller, more localised plantations. This is used to produce rum and mead, with notable varities including THE KRAKEN and DRAGON TAIL. The imminent construction of the Pan Valaysian Expressway (stretching from Kuala Lumpur to Sepang) should help transport goods to Valaysia's only connection to the outside world - an airfield between Sepang and Fairweather.
