Papacy 2020-2022

On the 26th of June 2020, after the retirement of Pope Pius XIV. Cardinal Gabriel Barclay was appointed and succeeded to the seat of pope. The new pope chose 'Leo' as the name, because of Sanctus Leo I, he admired the Saint's contributions to the church. '' Dear brothers and sisters, after the great Pope Pius XIV, the Cardinals recognised me, a simple, humble labourer in the vineyard of the Lord. The fact that the Lord knows how to work and to act even with insufficient instruments comforts me, and above all, I entrust myself to your prayers. In the joy of the Risen Lord, confident of his unfailing help, let us move forward. The Lord will help us, and Mary, His Most Holy Mother, will be on our side. Thank you.''

On the 10th of July, Leo XIV opened the Holy Doors in St Peter's Basilica, he declare the Jubilee Year of Mercy. Pope Leo XIV resigned from the position of Supreme Pontiff on the 8th of August 2020, he shall remain as Leo XIV remained as "Bishop of Rome, Cardinal Camerlengo, Successor of Saint Peter". On the 11th of September 2020, the Consul of Rome, Nicholas Romanov and fellow leader was banned.
