The Supreme Order of Christ (Italian: Ordine Supremo del Cristo) was the highest order of chivalry awarded by the pope. According to some scholars, it owes its origin to the same Order of Christ of the Knights Templar, from which came the Order of Christ that was awarded by the kings of Portugal and the emperors of Brazil. The Portuguese order had originally both a secular and religious component; by the 18th century, the religious component had died out.

The Supreme Order of Christ is the highest order in Rome, the honourees of this order are selected by the Grand Masters and the Sovereign. The current sovereign of the order is Pope Leo XIV. The three lower orders are Order of Pope Pius XVI, Order of Pope Leo XIV and the Pontifical Equestrian Order of St. Gregory the Great.)

The Installation ceremony of The Supreme Order of Christ will be held annually on the 23rd of November, in The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. The Chapel of the Order is the Chair of Saint Peter Chapel in St. Peter's Basilica. The Sovereign and the Knights and Dames Grand Cross heraldic flags are displayed above the Papal Chair.
